I couldn’t agree more with what you are saying here. We’ve definitely had similar problems in our group. I was even finishing up our build during the start of a playtest at one point (not something I would recommend :P ). So what you bring up is absolutely something I think a lot of people just starting off with game design could learn a bunch from.
The only part I can really critique with your post is perhaps your use of images. While they are showing parts of your game and some graphs, which I assume are, from your playtest results, they don’t really add anything to the post. For any potential future posts, perhaps you could consider using images that support the post and what you’re talking about rather than just being, for the lack of a better word, “white noise”. Also, the choice to put the graph at the top slightly confused me at first as it makes it look like this post has two titles.
But otherwise, solid read. Good post :)
